Pure Fitness DC was founded by Mimi Rieger after many years of exploration into the fitness world. A registered yoga teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance since 2002, Mimi found her passion when she started teaching yoga. Mimi has studied extensively with many notable teachers; David Ingalls, Cameron Shayne and attended numerous intensives/workshops with Shiva Rea, Rodney Yee, Angela Farmer, Richard Freeman, David and Doug Swenson, Baron Baptiste, Ana Forrest and Dharma Mittra.

In 2005, Mimi discovered Budokon and is now a certified teacher, the first in the DC metro area and the Director of Budokon, DC, VA and MD. With her background in martial arts and yoga, Budokon is a perfect opportunity to teach both.

Mimi received her yoga teacher certification at the Ashtanga Yoga Center in 2002 and continues to teach and practice in this style. Pure Fitness DC offers private, semi private personal yoga/ and or Budokon sessions as well as group or corporate classes (see classes page).  Cross training within the mediums of martial arts, yoga and resistance work guarantees an intense yet  exciting fitness regimen.

Budokon is a blend of martial arts, yoga and meditation. The practice was created by Kancho Cameron Shayne in 2000 as a result of his 20 years of study in the yogic, martial and living arts. A Budokon conditioning class offers the student an intense, full body work out in a safe, non-competitive environment.

The Budokon yogic movements focus on the yin aspects of stillness and mind/body connectivity, while the budo movements  based on Gracie jiu-jitsu, Olympic Style Taekwondo and Okinawan Karate, strive to master the more energetic yang characteristics. The practice dances between agility, control, power, balance and flow.

Zen meditation links the yoga and budo practice together, bringing the body and mind to a strong yet restful place. This practice is the foundation of Budokon and weaves its way through everything we do.

The way we move reflects the way we think.

The way we think reflects the way we live.

The way we live reflects the world we create.
